When to post on Threads: read your own data

Best-time charts average other people's audiences. Here's how to find the window that works for yours on Threads.

THREADS

Threads is new enough that "best time to post" charts for it are built on even shakier ground than for older platforms — smaller datasets, shorter history, and an algorithm that's still actively changing. Your own data, limited as it might be, is more trustworthy than any chart claiming a universal answer.

Threads' algorithm rewards recency hard

Unlike some platforms where a post can resurface days later, Threads leans heavily toward showing recent activity. That makes timing arguably more consequential here than on more evergreen-friendly platforms — a post that misses its initial window doesn't get as many second chances.

Step 1: Log your last 15-20 posts

Threads' native analytics are still fairly basic, so pull what you can — publish time, likes, replies, reposts — directly from the app, or track it manually if the in-app data doesn't go back far enough.

Step 2: Weight replies more than likes

Threads is structurally built around conversation, more than X or Instagram. A post that gets replies is doing something a like-only post isn't — it's prompting people to actually engage, which tends to matter more for how far Threads pushes a post. When comparing timing windows, look at reply count and reply speed specifically, not just total engagement.

Step 3: Compare against your Instagram and X activity if you cross-post

Since a lot of Threads accounts overlap with Instagram followers, and posting habits often mirror X, check whether your Threads engagement follows a similar daily pattern to your other accounts or diverges. If it diverges, that's a real signal your Threads audience behaves differently, not just noise.

Step 4: Test a few windows deliberately

Because Threads' own algorithm is still evolving, don't treat any conclusion as permanent. Pick 2-3 candidate windows, post consistently in each for a couple of weeks, and compare engagement rate, not raw totals, since your follower count is likely still growing.

What to do with the answer

Post your best material inside your identified window, but don't be afraid to post more casually outside it — Threads rewards frequent, lower-stakes posting, and holding everything for a single "optimal" slot runs against the platform's own conversational, low-friction nature.
