How often should you post on X?

A realistic X cadence you can keep up for a year, not just a week.

X

X moves faster than any other major platform, and the honest cadence answer reflects that: most posts have a real lifespan measured in hours, not days. If you're used to LinkedIn or Instagram timelines, this is the biggest mental shift you need to make.

Why the feed forgives high frequency here

Because posts decay quickly, posting multiple times a day on X doesn't cannibalize your own reach the way it would on LinkedIn. Each post gets a fresh, mostly independent shot at the timeline. That's why the highest-performing X accounts often post far more often than creators on any other platform — the format is built to absorb it.

A realistic cadence

  • 3–7 posts a day for an actively growing account. That includes original posts, replies, and quote-posts — not all high-production content.
  • 1–2 "main" posts a day — the ones you actually put thought into — with the rest being lower-effort replies and observations.
  • Replies are not filler. Genuinely useful replies in threads with larger audiences than yours are one of the most reliable ways to get discovered on X, and they cost very little time per reply.
On X, a good reply to someone else's popular post routinely reaches more people than a mediocre original post — treat replying as a first-class part of your posting cadence, not something you do after you've "finished" posting for the day.

What actually varies by account type

  • News and commentary accounts can post 10+ times a day and it reads as normal, even expected.
  • Niche expertise accounts (a specific industry, a specific skill) do better around 3–5 a day, because credibility matters more than sheer volume.
  • Personal/build-in-public accounts often do best with 1–2 substantial posts a day plus active replying — the replies are where the actual relationship-building happens.

The trap of chasing volume

Posting constantly without a point burns you out and, worse, trains your own audience to skim past you. X rewards frequency, but it still rewards quality within that frequency — a string of forgettable posts doesn't compound the way a smaller number of sharp ones does.

A cadence to hold for a year

Pick one or two times a day for a post you've actually thought about, and treat the rest of your activity as opportunistic replying whenever you're already on the platform. That's sustainable because it doesn't require a content calendar to maintain — just a habit of replying with something useful whenever you have something to add.
